Applying for Financial Aid
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) needs to be completed annually. The FAFSA can be completed online at www.fafsa.gov. If you cannot apply online, you may request a paper FAFSA by calling 1-800-433-3243. Make sure you list Fletcher’s school code, 013580, when completing your FAFSA.
The official FAFSA is located at www.FAFSA.gov. Be aware to avoid accessing the FAFSA at www.FAFSA.com. If you go to a “.com” site, you will probably be asked to pay to submit the FAFSA. Remember, the first F in FAFSA stands for free – so use the official government site to submit your application.
After submitting your application, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). You should read the Student Aid Report ASAP to be sure that no corrections are necessary. If corrections are needed, please submit them immediately (either on the SAR or online).
On or around the time you receive your SAR, Fletcher will receive the same information. We will contact you via email (the email address you submitted on your FAFSA is the email address used by Fletcher) if additional information is needed to complete your file. If your Student Aid Report states that you have been selected for a process called “verification” or if notified by our office, you must submit certain documents to our office. Completing applications incorrectly and/or omitting information on the application can cause processing delays.
When we have received all documents needed and your file is complete, we will process your aid and award your account with the maximum amount you are eligible to receive. A notification will be sent to you via email when your financial aid has been awarded. Occasionally, a student who was initially eligible for aid may no longer be eligible after all documents have been submitted and reviewed. While this is definitely not the norm, it does happen occasionally.
