Schriever, LA – A lot can happen in four months. Just ask the 15 members of the third cohort of Fletcher’s Certified Line Worker Training Program. A packed room of family, friends, and other well-wishers gathered at Fletcher Technical Community College on Tuesday, May 28, to celebrate the students’ completion of the 16-week program.
Applause and cheers erupted as it was announced that all 15 students have secured employment with Louisiana Energy Workforce Consortia (LEWC) companies: Entergy and Linetec Services.
“We are excited to celebrate the completion of the most recent cohort of the Certified Line Worker Program,” commented Fletcher Chancellor Dr. Kristine Strickland. “The students have worked tremendously hard over the past 16 weeks and it is demonstrated in the 100% job placement rate. This continues the tradition of excellence in this program in training the future workforce of the energy sector. As we approach another hurricane season, it is wonderful to know that these talented and motivated students will be on the job helping our communities when we need them most.”
The Certified Line Worker Training Program provides the necessary foundation for participants to begin their line worker career as a helper/apprentice for an electric utility company. Students are encouraged to complete training in Fletcher’s CDL Class A course, which immediately follows the Line Worker Training Program. Upon completion of both programs, students receive certifications in NCCER, OSHA 10, CPR/First Aid, and CDL Class A license.
