Schriever, LA – BayouSTEM will be the host of the first community-based robotics competition team in the Bayou Region on December 9, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Fletcher Technical Community College’s IPT facility located at 224 Rouses Drive behind the main campus in Schriever, Louisiana. BayouSTEM was awarded two rookie grants, one from John Deere Inspire, and the other from For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST), to launch a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team. The team will be composed of high school students from Assumption, Lafourche, and Terrebonne Parishes.
“FRC teams are an amazing creative outlet for students that incorporates critical thinking and problem solving while learning real-world applications and skills to prepare them for the job market. It is a very inclusive team, including both STEM and Art,” says Christie Landry, Director of BayouSTEM.
Students will be able to flex their creative muscle in aspects of robot design and coding, graphic design, marketing and fund raising, electrical and mechanical engineering, and many other aspects that go into the finished robot for competition.
Students, parents, and mentors interested in learning more about BayouSTEM and the community based FRC team are invited to attend the FRC Recruiting Event at Fletcher Technical Community College on Saturday, December 09, from 10 a.m.-1pm..
