Fletcher Technical Community College Donor Hugh Caffery Honored with Prestigious NJ "Woody" Ogé Excellence in Advocacy Award

Schriever, LA – Fletcher Technical Community College is thrilled to announce that long-time supporter and prominent Bayou Region leader, HughCaffery, has been awarded the prestigious NJ "Woody" Ogé Excellence in Advocacy Award at the 2024 Louisiana Community and Technical Colleges (LCTCS) Impact Awards Ceremony. This distinguished recognition was presented during the LCTCS Annual Conference on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, in New Orleans.

Hugh Caffery, President and CEO of Valentine Chemicals, has been an unwavering advocate for Fletcher Technical Community College, dedicating his time, resources, and leadership to enhance the institution’s ability to serve its students and community. Caffery’s generous contributions, including the donation of a building that houses a state-of-the-art electrical lab at Fletcher’s Thibodaux facility, have significantly strengthened the college’s technical programs, particularly in high-demand fields like electrical technology.

Mr. Caffery's dedication to workforce development and his deep commitment to the mission of community and technical colleges have been pivotal to Fletcher’s growth. His leadership extends beyond financial contributions; he has served in numerous key roles, including Chairman of the Board of Commissioners for the Bayou Lafourche Fresh Water District, Chairman of Fletcher’s Chancellor’s Circle, and a member of the Fletcher Foundation Board of Directors.

Mr. Caffery’s passion for education, particularly in the technical and workforce sectors, and his hands-on approach to supporting Fletcher have made him a fitting recipient of this prestigious award.

Caffery's leadership in the ACT 360 Campaign, which raised $615,000 for Fletcher during challenging economic times, is just one example of his dedication. His ongoing efforts to bridge gaps in funding and resources have enabled Fletcher to maintain its commitment to student success and workforce development.
