Marine Diesel Engine Technician
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Marine Diesel Engine Technician Program prepares a student to diagnose, service and repair marine diesel engines. Students are instructed on how to overhaul engines and their component systems; repair marine transmission and hydraulic systems; welding; and rigging. The instruction also includes the use of technical manuals; preventive maintenance procedures; communication and employability skills; and safe and efficient work practices.
At the completion of the Marine Diesel program, students are prepared for employment as an entry-level Marine Diesel Engine Technician. Classes for this program are held from 3:00 - 9:00 PM at the Career Magnet Center in Lockport, LA.

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES
Students who successfully complete a Marine Diesel Engine Technician program will be able to:
- Safely use hand and power tools as well as lifting and rigging equipment in a marine environment.
- Describe the theory of operation of a diesel engine and marine transmission.
- Describe the various engine systems such as fuel, air, coolant, and lubrication.
- Disassemble and assemble diesel engines, marine transmissions, and components.
- Disassemble and repair basic hydraulic system components.
- Perform basic welding and cutting skills.
- Read and utilize technical manuals and computers to access information and explain repair procedures.
