MEDICAL ASSISTANT TO PRACTICAL NURSING

We are so glad you’re here! Fletcher Technical Community College’s Medical Assistant (MA) to Practical Nursing (PN) track provides an accelerated and affordable avenue to your nursing career. Fletcher’s MA to PN track can be completed in four semesters, which is great news if you are eager to advance your healthcare career. The clinical courses only require you to come to campus one day a week and clinical is in the evenings or on weekends which allows you to work while you are in school.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The MA to PN track consists of four semesters of classroom instruction, service learning opportunities, and supervised clinical activities in accredited hospitals, nursing homes, and other health care agencies including the learning community at Fletcher Technical Community College. The Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners (LSBPNE) has approval is pending.

The MA to PN track of the Practical Nursing Program at Fletcher Technical Community College located in Schriever, Louisiana is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) 3390 Peachtree Road, Suite 1400 Atlanta, GA 30326 404-975-5000 www.acenursing.org. The most recent accreditation decision made by the ACEN Board of Commissioners for the Practical Nursing Program is Continued Accreditation. ADMISSIONS

APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR THE FALL ADMISSION WILL BE June 2, 2025 at 4:00 pm.

Upon acceptance to the program, students will be required to attend orientation on campus scheduled for July 8, 2025

Fletcher Technical Community College admits a new clinical class into the MA to PN program once a year, only in the fall semester. Specific clinical application and admission requirements can be found in the program’s current Admission Guide. Students must review the Admission Guide prior to applying to the program. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their advisor before scheduling or withdrawing from courses. The requirements to the program are:
 
  • Students interested in applying to the program must meet the following criteria:
    • ACT test score: English 18; Math 18 OR
    • ACCUPLACER NEXT GEN: Language (English): 250; Math (QRAS): 250 OR
    • Transcripts proving credit for college level English and/or college level Math
    • Contact the Testing Center for test dates
  • Be 18 years of age
  • Must have current national certification as a Medical Assistant or provide proof of completion of a Medical Assistant program within the last five (5) years.
  • Submit letters from employers verifying work experience, which include a minimum of one-year full-time work within the last five years, or a minimum of 1600 hours of work in one year within the last five years.
  • In-person admission interview and 200-word writing assignment (per invitation)
  • Must have high school diploma/HiSet/GED
  • Louisiana State Police background check free of felony convictions
  • Admission into the MA to PN track program is based on the above criteria. Seating is limited. A student’s eligibility to apply is not a guarantee of acceptance into the Practical Nursing Program. Fletcher Technical Community College does not maintain a waiting list. Applicants who are not admitted are welcome to reapply to the program the following year.

Salary & Career Outlook

**This program has a clinical component to complete the program. Please be advised that Fletcher’s Nursing and Allied Health faculty members work closely with many clinical sites to provide an optimal clinical experience for all of its students. Fletcher must follow policies and guidelines set forth by programmatic accreditation boards as well as hospital policies. We must abide by the federal, state, local, college and health care facility mandates and your program completion date is dependent upon our ability to enter and complete training in clinical facilities.
