PHLEBOTOMY REFRESHER

We are so glad you're here! The Phlebotomy refresher course is a Validated Skills & Learning (VSL) course provided to individuals who have already been working in the field of phlebotomy.
COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is intended to strengthen the knowledge base of individuals in order to be successful in taking the certification exam to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT). This course will support the experienced, working phlebotomist’s learning and preparation for the national certification exam. Topics include geriatric and pediatric phlebotomy, infection control, blood cultures and other special collections, dermal punctures, specimen quality, patient identification, venipuncture procedure, and much more.
This course is online and self-paced and can be started immediately after registration. Students will be given 16 weeks to complete all the modules with an 80% or better in order to be considered Satisfactory. Students who are unsuccessful (<80%) or do not complete the course within the 16 week period will receive a "U". This course will require the use of a webcam with Respondus LockDown Browser when taking exams.

- basic anatomy
- physiology
- infection control
- venipuncture
The program also prepares students to take the Certified Phlebotomy Technician exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

CERTIFICATION EXAM REQUIREMENTS
The Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam is offered through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). It is the student's responsibility to ensure all requirements are met to take the exam. It is the student's responsibility to schedule and pay for the certification exam.
The following requirements must be met in order to take the CPT exam. More information can be found on the National Healthcareer Association website.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED/high school equivalency
- 1 year of supervised work experience in a phlebotomy technician field within the last 3 years (this work experience must include successfully performing a minimum of 30 venipuncture and 10 capillary sticks on live individuals); OR
- 2 years of supervised work experience in a phlebotomy technician field within the last 5 years (this work experience must include successfully performing a minimum of 30 venipuncture and 10 capillary sticks on live individuals)
Tuition:
- $600 Tuition must be paid in full upon application submittal.
*All VSL course tuition and fees are assessed by each class. Tuition, fees, and other charges relating to VSL classes are not refundable unless the training course is canceled by the College. If the College cancels a class, then 100% of all College-assessed tuition and fees paid will be refunded for the canceled class.
