STERILE PROCESSING REFRESHER (ONLINE)

We are so glad you're here! The Sterile Processing refresher course is a Validated Skills & Learning (VSL) course provided to individuals who have already been working in the field of sterile processing.
COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is intended to strengthen the knowledge base of individuals in order to be successful in taking the certification exam to become a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST). This course is online and self-paced and can be started immediately after registration. Students will be given 16 weeks to complete all the modules with a 70% or better in order to be considered Satisfactory. Students who are unsuccessful (<70%) or do not complete the course within the 16 week period will receive a "U". This course will require the use of a webcam with Respondus LockDown Browser when taking exams. Learn more about the course exam requirements.
Topics covered in the course include:
- Medical terminology related to a sterile processing technician
- Industry regulations and best practice standards
- decontamination and sterilization of medical supplies and equipment
- Equipment transportation, quality assurance practices and workplace safety procedures
- duties and responsibilities of a sterile processing technician, including basic technology, writing, professionalism, math skills used in the workplace
- aseptic technique
- HIPPAA privacy
- basic concepts of microbiology
- teamwork, workplace communication and customer relations in the sterile processing setting
- Instrumentation identification
- special procedural requirements and decontamination requirements for various sets
- Special considerations when handling, decontaminating, and wrapping specialty instruments to include, but not limited to , orthopedic, CV, neurological, OBGYN, and laparoscopic instruments.

CERTIFICATION EXAM REQUIREMENTS
The Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) exam is offered through the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) It is the student's responsibility to ensure they meet all the requirements needed to take the certification exam. It is the student's responsibility to schedule and pay for the certification exam.
The following requirements must be met in order to take the CRCST exam. More information can be found on the HSPA website.
- 400 hours of experience must be completed in a Sterile Processing department (SPD) during the previous five years, preceding the application

- $600 Tuition must be paid in full upon application submittal

*All VSL course tuition and fees are assessed by each class. Tuition, fees, and other charges relating to VSL classes are not refundable unless the training course is canceled by the College. If the College cancels a class, then 100% of all College-assessed tuition and fees paid will be refunded for the canceled class.
