Psychological Services Bureau (PSB)
The Psychological Services Bureau (PSB) is the entrance exam for the Practical Nursing Program. The PSB exam is specifically designed for those students entering education programs for health professions. The PSB exam is comprised of a series of tests that measure abilities, knowledge, and attitudes considered important for successful performance in a health program.
The PSB Exam for Allied Health Professions and Nursing includes five areas:
- Academic Aptitude: 45 minutes – 90 questions
This section measures how well you think and learn. - Spelling: 15 minutes – 50 questions
This section of the examination measures how well you can spell and what you know about the various rules of grammar as they are reflected in the spelling of certain words. - Information in the Natural Sciences: 30 minutes – 90 questions
This section of the examination is concerned with measuring your accumulated knowledge or information in the area of the natural sciences. - Judgement & Comprehension in Practical Nursing Situations: 30 minutes – 50 questions
In this section, the questions concern general concepts about the working relationships of the practical or vocational nurse. Each question is followed by four possible answers. You are to select the one answer, which in your judgement, is the best of the four choices. It may be that you will not agree completely with any of the answers offered, or more than one answer may appear to you to be correct. However, you are to select the one answer which you consider the best. - Vocational Adjustment Index: 15 minutes – 90 questions
In this section of the examination, there are statements that concern how you feel about yourself and certain situation in relation to a potential work environment. This is not a test, but rather an inventory of your feelings, attitudes, and opinions which is designed to assist in placing you in a work situation where you will find satisfaction and be happy. There are probably no “right” answers or “wrong” answers – some people feel one way, other people feel another way. Agreement or disagreement with the statements will simply show what you usually think, how you usually feel, or what you usually do about things.
YOU ARE NOT EXPECTED TO COMPLETE EACH SECTION.
